Before you sit down

We check your coverage first, not afterwards

The worst moment in dentistry isn't the drill. It's the invoice nobody warned you about. Dental plans are full of things that catch people out — annual maximums, waiting periods, frequency limits on cleanings, separate lifetime caps for orthodontics — and almost none of it is obvious from the card in your wallet.

So we do the checking before you arrive. Send your plan details when you book, and by the time you're in the chair we already know what your plan covers, what it doesn't, and what your share will be. If treatment is needed beyond a check-up, you get that figure in writing before anything starts.

We file claims on your behalf for the plans listed below, whether we're in network or not. And if you have no dental insurance at all, our in-house membership plan is usually the cheaper route — there's a section on that further down.

Dental insurance we work with

Plans change and networks change. If yours is on this list, call and we’ll confirm your specific plan — and if it isn’t, read the section underneath, because we can usually still help.

Delta Dental

Delta Dental is the largest dental benefits carrier in the United States and runs two separate networks — Delta Dental PPO and Delta Dental Premier — which pay at different rates. Many patients don't know which of the two they're on, so it's worth letting us check rather than guessing. Send us your member ID when you book and we'll confirm your coverage, your remaining annual maximum and any waiting periods before your appointment.

MetLife

MetLife dental is a common benefit among the energy and engineering employers along the Energy Corridor, so we see a lot of these plans. Coverage varies widely between employer groups on the same carrier — two people with MetLife cards can have very different benefits. We verify your particular plan rather than assuming a standard schedule.

Cigna Dental

Cigna offers both PPO plans and DHMO plans, and they work very differently — a DHMO generally requires you to be assigned to a specific contracted office, while a PPO gives you a choice of dentist. Tell us which you have when you book and we'll explain what it means for your treatment here.

Aetna Dental

Aetna dental plans typically cover preventive care at or near a hundred per cent, with restorative and major treatment paid at lower percentages once any waiting period has passed. We'll confirm where your plan sits on that scale, and what's left of your annual maximum, before you commit to anything beyond a check-up.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas

BCBS of Texas dental plans come in several tiers, often bundled with medical cover through an employer. Because the dental portion is frequently administered separately from the medical side, the card in your wallet may not tell the whole story. Send it over and we'll find the dental benefit.

Guardian Dental

Guardian plans commonly include a maximum rollover feature, where unused annual benefit carries into the following year — useful if you're planning larger treatment and can phase it across two benefit years. We'll tell you whether yours has it, and whether phasing would actually save you money in your case.

UnitedHealthcare Dental

UnitedHealthcare dental plans are often attached to a wider employer benefits package, with the dental element run on its own network and fee schedule. We verify the dental portion specifically rather than relying on what the medical side says.

Humana Dental

Humana offers both employer dental plans and individual policies bought directly, and the two behave quite differently — individual plans more often carry waiting periods on major treatment. If you've bought your own cover recently, that's worth checking before scheduling anything substantial.

Ameritas

Ameritas dental plans are widely used by small and mid-sized employers across Texas. Benefit levels vary considerably between groups, so we check your specific plan's coverage percentages and remaining maximum rather than working from a generic schedule.

Principal Dental

Principal dental plans frequently include a benefit that increases over the first few years you stay enrolled. If you've had the plan a while, your coverage may be better than you think — something we'll spot when we verify it.

United Concordia

United Concordia administers a number of employer and government-related dental programmes, each with its own network rules. Let us know which programme yours falls under and we'll confirm exactly what it covers here.

Sun Life Dental

Sun Life dental plans, including those previously branded Assurant, are common in mid-sized employer packages. We'll verify your coverage tier, any waiting periods and what remains of your annual maximum before treatment is scheduled.

Don't see your plan?

Your plan isn't listed. Now what?

Call us before you assume the answer is no. The list above covers the carriers we see most often, not every plan we can work with, and networks change more frequently than websites do.

Most PPO plans can be used here even where we aren't a contracted provider. You'd typically be treated as out of network, which usually means your plan pays a smaller share — but it very often still pays. The section below explains how that works.

DHMO and discount plans are different. A DHMO generally only pays at the specific office you've been assigned to, so if you want to be seen here you'd need to change your assigned provider with your insurer first. We can talk you through that.

If your plan genuinely won't work here, we'll tell you straight away rather than booking you in and letting you discover it afterwards. In most of those cases our membership plan costs less than what the insurance would have paid anyway.

Out-of-network billing

What out of network actually means

It's one of the most misunderstood phrases in dentistry. It does not mean your insurance is useless here.

In network

Does your plan still pay?

Yes

Usually yes, at a lower percentage

Fees charged

Contracted rate agreed with the insurer

Our standard fee

Your share

Generally lower

Generally higher — the difference is yours

Who files the claim?

We do, as a courtesy

Who gets the payment?

Paid to us directly

Depends on your plan — some reimburse you instead

Do you know the cost first?

Yes, in writing

Yes, in writing

We'll get you an estimate first

For anything beyond routine care we can submit a pre-treatment estimate to your insurer, so you see their written answer before you decide. It adds a couple of weeks and is almost always worth it.

We file the paperwork either way

In network or out, we complete and submit the claim for you. You are not left filling in forms and chasing your insurer.

Nothing is a surprise

You get the estimated patient portion in writing before treatment starts. If your insurer pays less than expected, we tell you why rather than just sending a bill.

Sometimes the membership plan wins

If your out-of-network share works out higher than our membership pricing, we'll point that out — even though it means you buy the cheaper thing.

No dental insurance?

The membership plan instead

If you have no dental insurance — self-employed, retired, between jobs, or simply never signed up — buying an individual policy is often poor value once you account for premiums, deductibles, waiting periods and annual maximums.

$399 a year for adults, $299 for children under 14. That covers two exams, two cleanings, routine X-rays, a fluoride treatment and an emergency exam whenever you need one.

Members also get set pricing on treatment: tooth-coloured fillings from $149, crowns at $799, root canals from $699 and implant-plus-crown packages from $1,999.

No waiting periods, no annual maximum, no deductibles, no claims to file and nobody to argue with about whether something is covered.

Step by step

How billing works here

From booking to the final statement, so there's nothing you have to work out on your own.

01

You send us your plan details

When you book

Carrier name, member ID, group number and the policyholder's date of birth. A photo of both sides of the card is the easiest way — call it through or bring it with you.

02

We verify your benefits

Before your appointment

We contact your insurer to confirm what's covered, at what percentage, what's left of your annual maximum, and whether any waiting periods or frequency limits apply.

03

You get your estimate in writing

Before treatment starts

The treatment plan, what your insurer is expected to pay and what your share will be. For larger cases we can submit a pre-treatment estimate and wait for the insurer's written response first.

04

Treatment, then we file the claim

Same day

You pay your estimated portion at the visit. We complete and submit the claim to your insurer for you, in network or out.

05

Your insurer settles

Typically 2–6 weeks

If they pay more than estimated, you're refunded the difference. If they pay less, we'll explain exactly why before anything is billed to you.

Questions we get asked

Insurance FAQs

Do you take my insurance?

Probably — but the honest answer is that we'd rather check than guess. Look for your carrier in the list above, then call (281) 809-3595 with your member ID so we can confirm your specific plan. Two people holding the same carrier's card can have completely different benefits depending on their employer group.

If your carrier isn't listed at all, call anyway. Most PPO plans can be used here even where we aren't contracted, and we'll tell you honestly if yours can't.

Out of network does not mean your insurance is useless here. It means we don't have a contracted fee schedule with that carrier, so your plan typically pays a smaller percentage and the difference is your responsibility. Most PPO plans still pay something toward out-of-network care.

We file the claim for you either way, and you get the estimated patient portion in writing before treatment starts. For larger cases we can submit a pre-treatment estimate so your insurer confirms in writing what they'll pay before you decide. And if the out-of-network figure works out higher than our membership plan pricing, we'll say so.

Yes, for every plan listed above, whether we're in network or out. You pay your estimated portion at the visit and we handle the paperwork with your insurer. You won't be filling in claim forms or chasing anyone. Note that with some out-of-network plans the insurer sends payment directly to you rather than to us — we'll tell you in advance if yours works that way.

Send us the carrier name, your member ID, the group number and the policyholder's date of birth, and we'll contact your insurer and come back to you. It's faster than reading a policy document and we know which questions actually matter — annual maximum, coverage percentages, waiting periods and frequency limits on cleanings.

It's the most your plan will pay toward your care in a benefit year, commonly somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000. Once it's used up, you pay the rest yourself. It matters most for larger treatment: if you need extensive work in November, phasing part of it into January may mean two annual maximums instead of one. We'll flag it when it applies to you.

Many individual policies do, particularly for major treatment like crowns, implants and orthodontics — often six to twelve months from enrolment. Employer plans less often. We check this when we verify your benefits, because starting treatment a month before a waiting period ends is an expensive mistake.

It depends entirely on your situation. If your employer pays the premium, keep the insurance. If you're buying an individual policy yourself, add up the annual premiums, the deductible and the annual maximum and compare it with our $399 membership — individual dental policies frequently cost more than they return. We'll do that comparison with you honestly, even when the answer isn't the one that earns us more.

Yes. Dental treatment is generally an eligible expense for health savings and flexible spending accounts, and many patients use them for the portion insurance doesn't cover. FSA funds usually expire at year end, which is worth remembering in December.

Tell us before treatment rather than afterwards. We offer financing for qualifying patients, with a pre-qualification application that won't affect your credit score, and we can often phase treatment so the most urgent work happens first and the rest waits for the next benefit year. There's almost always a route that isn't "do nothing".
