They have one chipped front tooth that catches their eye in every photo, or a dark filling that shows when they laugh, or teeth that have quietly worn shorter over twenty years of clenching. Fixing one of those things well is usually a smaller job than people expect.
What separates cosmetic work that lasts from cosmetic work that has to be redone is the part nobody photographs: the bite. Veneers on teeth that grind, crowns on a tooth with untreated decay underneath, or whitening over active gum inflammation all look excellent for about a year. So we treat the health first, plan around how your teeth actually meet, and only then talk about shade and shape.
Dr. Kavan Gandhi handles the cosmetic and surgical side here, with Dr. Rosario covering the restorative work, which means a case that turns out to need a root canal or an implant along the way stays in the same building. You will get a written plan with the sequence and the cost before anything is prepared — and if the honest answer is bonding rather than eight veneers, that is what we will say.

How a cosmetic case runs
Nothing is prepared at the first appointment. You see the plan, the sequence and the cost before any tooth is touched.
Consultation and photographs
One visit · about 45 minutes
You tell us what bothers you, in your words, and we take photographs and look at how your teeth meet. Bringing a picture of a smile you like helps more than any description — it tells us immediately whether you are after whiter, straighter or longer.
Health check first
Same visit
Decay, gum inflammation and failing old fillings get dealt with before anything cosmetic. Porcelain bonded to a compromised tooth is money spent twice, so this stage is not optional and we will not skip it to get to the interesting part.
The written plan
Within a few days
You get the sequence, how many visits, how many teeth and the full cost in writing — including the alternatives. If bonding gets you most of the way at a third of the price, that option will be on the sheet.
Preparation and temporaries

For veneers and crowns, a thin layer is removed, an impression or scan is taken, and you leave in temporaries. This is your preview: you live with the shape for a couple of weeks and tell us what to change before the porcelain is made.
Fitting

The temporaries come off and the finished porcelain is tried in before it is bonded, so shade and shape can still be adjusted. Nothing is cemented until you have seen it in daylight and said yes.
Bite check, nightguard and review
A week or two later
We check the bite once everything has settled. If you grind, a nightguard is fitted at this stage — it is the cheapest thing on the whole plan and the one most likely to decide how long the work lasts.

What makes cosmetic work look real
Everyone can spot bad veneers and nobody can spot good ones. These are the things that decide which you end up with.
Shade chosen against your face
Teeth are matched in daylight against your skin and the whites of your eyes, not against a chart under a surgery lamp. The right shade for you is usually a step warmer than the one people ask for.
Front teeth are not all identical
Real central incisors are slightly longer than the teeth beside them, and no two are perfectly matched. Porcelain that is uniform across eight teeth is exactly what people mean when they say a smile looks fake.
Texture, not just color
Natural enamel has faint surface texture and is more translucent at the edge than at the gum. Flat, opaque porcelain catches the light in a way that reads as artificial from across a room.
The gum line is respected
Where the porcelain meets the gum decides whether it stays invisible. A margin left in the wrong place is what produces the dark line people notice a few years later.
The bite is planned, not discovered
If your front teeth take the force of clenching, veneers there will chip. Working out where the load goes is done before preparation, not after something breaks.
You see it before it is permanent
Temporaries and a try-in stage exist so you can change your mind while changing it is still easy. Any plan that goes straight from drilling to cemented porcelain is skipping the step that protects you.

Veneers are not reversible
Once a tooth has been prepared for porcelain it will always need something on it. That is why we suggest whitening and bonding first where they will get you close enough — you can always go further later, but you cannot put enamel back.
Whitening does not change crowns, veneers or fillings
Only natural tooth structure lightens. If you plan to whiten, do it first and let the shade settle, then match any new work to the result. Doing it the other way round means paying twice.
Cosmetic work will not fix gum disease or decay
It hides them for a while. Any active problem gets treated first, even when that adds time and cost to the plan, because porcelain over an untreated tooth fails on its own schedule rather than yours.
If you grind, you need a nightguard
Not optional, and not an upsell. Grinding is the most common reason cosmetic work chips or debonds early, and a guard costs a fraction of replacing a veneer.
Bigger is not always better
A lot of people arrive asking for eight veneers and leave with whitening, one bonded edge and a new filling shade. If that gets you the result you wanted, we will tell you so rather than quoting the larger case.

We quote veneers per case rather than publishing a single figure, because the honest answer depends on how many teeth are involved, whether any of them need treating first, and which material suits your bite. What we can tell you up front is that a porcelain crown is $799 on our membership plan and a tooth-colored filling is $149 to $249. Come in for a consultation and you will leave with the full veneer figure in writing, along with what bonding or whitening would cost instead.

Do veneers ruin your teeth?
They do not damage a healthy tooth when they are planned and fitted properly, but preparing a tooth for porcelain is not reversible: a thin layer of enamel is removed and that tooth will always need something covering it afterwards. That is exactly why we suggest whitening and bonding first where those would get you close enough to the result you want. You can always go further later; you cannot put enamel back
How long do veneers last?
Typically around ten to fifteen years, though that is a range rather than a promise. The two things that shorten it most are grinding and a bite that puts heavy force on the front teeth, which is why we assess how your teeth meet before preparing anything and fit a nightguard where one is needed.
Will teeth whitening work on my crowns and fillings?
No. Only natural tooth structure lightens — porcelain, composite and existing fillings stay exactly the shade they were made. If you are planning both, whiten first, let the shade settle for a couple of weeks, then have any new work matched to the result. Doing it the other way round usually means replacing work you have just paid for.
Will my veneers look fake?
Not if the case is planned properly. What makes cosmetic work obvious is uniformity — eight identical teeth in one flat, opaque shade. Natural front teeth vary slightly in length, have faint surface texture and are more translucent at the edges. How long does a smile makeover take?
For a small case — whitening, one bonded edge, replacing a dark filling — often two or three appointments over a few weeks. For veneers or a larger case, expect a consultation, a preparation visit, two weeks in temporaries and a fitting appointment, then a bite check afterwards. Anything that needs treatment first, such as a filling or gum treatment, is added at the front of that.
Can I have veneers if I grind my teeth?
Usually yes, but only alongside a nightguard, and the plan has to account for where the grinding force actually lands. Grinding is the most common reason cosmetic work chips or debonds early. In some cases we will recommend bonding or crowns instead of veneers because they cope better with the load — we will tell you which applies to you at the consultation.
Do I need to fix cavities or gum problems first?
Yes, and this is not negotiable. Decay, gum inflammation and failing old fillings are treated before any cosmetic work begins. Porcelain bonded over an untreated problem hides it for a while and then fails, which means paying for the same tooth twice. It adds time to the plan, and we would rather add it than take shortcuts underneath the part you can see.
Does insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?
Usually not. Insurers generally treat purely cosmetic work as elective and do not contribute, although they often do cover a crown where the tooth genuinely needs one for strength. We verify your benefits before you start so you know exactly which parts of your plan, if any, are covered. Financing is available for qualifying patients and checking whether you qualify does not affect your credit score.
