The simplest test is this: if you are in pain you cannot ignore, if something is bleeding and will not stop, if a tooth has been knocked out, or if your face is swelling — that is an emergency and you should call us today. Waiting on a broken or infected tooth almost always makes the treatment longer and more expensive than it needed to be.
Fine Dental Care holds emergency slots every weekday and on Saturdays at 955 Dairy Ashford, five minutes off I-10. Because both a surgical dentist and a restorative dentist work in the same building, most emergencies are dealt with in a single visit rather than being stabilized here and referred somewhere else.
If you are not sure whether what you have counts, call anyway. We would much rather spend two minutes on the phone telling you it can wait until Monday than have you sit at home on painkillers over the weekend with a spreading infection.
Same-day, six days a week
These are the calls we get most often from 77079, the Energy Corridor and Katy. If yours is not on the list, ring us anyway — the list is not exhaustive.
Pain that wakes you at night, throbs, or does not settle with over-the-counter painkillers. Usually the nerve, and usually treatable the same day.
Most Common Call
A gum boil, a bad taste, or swelling in the cheek or jaw. An infection that is spreading needs treating quickly, not on Monday.
Treat Urgently
An adult tooth out of the socket can often be replanted if you act inside the first hour. Read the first-aid steps below before you set off.
Act within the hour
A cracked cusp, a chip from biting something hard, or a tooth broken in a fall or a sports knock. Sharp edges are smoothed the same visit.
Same-day repair
A crown that has come off, or a filling that has fallen out and left the tooth sensitive to cold. Often re-cemented in one short appointment.
Short Appointment
Bleeding that will not settle with pressure after a tooth has been taken out, whether we did it or someone else did.
Call straight away
A partly erupted wisdom tooth with swollen, painful gum around it. We manage the infection first, then plan removal if it is needed.
Manage then plan
A cracked denture, a lost clasp, or a wire from a brace or retainer digging into the cheek. Small fixes that stop a miserable week.

General first aid while you are on your way to us. It is not a substitute for being seen — call (281) 809-3595 as well as following these steps.
1. Pick the tooth up by the crown — the chewing part. Never touch the root.
2. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline. Do not scrub it and do not use tap water.
3. If you can, place it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth to hold it.
4 . If you cannot, keep it in a cup of milk. Milk is far better than water; saliva is second best.
5. Call us and come straight in. Time out of the socket is the single biggest factor.
1. Rinse gently with warm salt water. Floss carefully once in case food is trapped.
2.Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the packet, if it is safe for you.
3. Never hold aspirin or a painkiller against the gum — it burns the tissue.
4. Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek, twenty minutes on, twenty off.
5. Sleep propped up on an extra pillow; lying flat usually makes it throb more.
1. Keep any pieces you can find and bring them with you in a small container.
2. Rinse your mouth with warm water and use a cold compress on the outside.
3. Cover a sharp edge with orthodontic wax or sugar-free gum so it stops cutting your tongue.
4. Avoid chewing on that side until you have been seen.
1. Roll a clean gauze or a damp tea bag into a firm pad and place it over the socket.
2. Bite down steadily for a full twenty minutes. Do not keep lifting it to check.
3. Stay upright, do not rinse, do not spit, and avoid hot drinks and smoking.
4. If it is still bleeding heavily after two attempts, call us — or go to an ER if you cannot reach us.
1. Call us the same day. Swelling means infection, and infection spreads.
2. Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek for comfort.
3. Do not apply heat to the face, and do not try to burst a gum boil yourself.
4. If you have leftover antibiotics at home, do not start them without being told to.
5. If the swelling is closing your eye, reaching your neck, or making it hard to breathe or swallow, go to an emergency room now.
1. Keep the crown — there is a good chance it can simply be re-cemented.
2. Clean it gently and store it somewhere safe. Do not glue it back with household adhesive.
3. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy is fine for a night or two.
4. Avoid very cold food and drink on that side, and chew on the other one.
. You are having difficulty breathing or swallowing.
.Swelling is spreading into your neck or under your jaw, or is closing one eye.
.Bleeding is heavy and has not slowed after twenty minutes of firm pressure, twice.
.The injury came from a blow to the head or face and you blacked out, feel confused, or cannot bite your teeth together properly — the jaw may be broken.
.You have a high fever alongside facial swelling and feel generally unwell.
In the United States, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. These situations need a hospital, not a dental chair. Call us afterwards and we will pick the tooth up from there.

Most people are out of pain and back in the parking lot within about an hour of arriving. Here is what actually happens in between.

Tell us what happened and when it started. We decide with you whether this is a today problem or a this-week problem, and if it is today, we hold you a slot before you hang up.
Usually within 15 minutes of arriving
Emergency patients are worked into the day rather than queued behind routine appointments. We examine the tooth and take a targeted X-ray of the area that hurts.

Nothing is done until you are comfortable, and if you are anxious we will talk through the sedation options rather than pushing on regardless.

That might be opening and draining an infected tooth, taking a nerve out of pain, re-cementing a crown, rebuilding a broken corner, or removing a tooth that cannot be saved. The aim is that you leave comfortable.

Emergency treatment is often the first half of the job. You will leave knowing what the permanent fix is, what it costs and whether it is urgent — on paper, with no pressure to book it on the spot.
Days to weeks later
Antibiotics reviewed, a temporary replaced with the permanent restoration, or a healing socket checked. Ring us in between if anything changes.

The emergency exam and routine X-rays are included on our in-house membership plan, which is $399 a year for adults and $299 for children under 14 with no waiting period. Treatment on the day is quoted before we start: a simple extraction is $149, a surgical extraction $249 and up, a filling $149 to $249, and a root canal $699 to $999 depending on the tooth.

Yes. We are open Monday to Friday and on Saturdays, and we keep emergency slots open on Saturdays as well. We are closed on Sundays; if something happens then, call us first thing Monday, or go to an emergency room if any of the red-flag symptoms apply.
We will tell you honestly which is realistic for your tooth and what each option costs, and then you decide. Saving a tooth is usually worth it if there is enough sound structure left. Where there is not, extracting it and planning a replacement is the more sensible spend, and we will say so
